(2/18/2019 emailed 21 Republican Senators up for re-election in 2020)

Democrats are drafting a resolution to block the declaration of a false national emergency. The National Emergencies Act requires that such a resolution, as privileged, is guaranteed a vote on the Senate floor.

How will you vote? Will you pander to the ever shrinking right wing base or will you honor your sworn oath of office and stand in defense of the Constitution? Will you act out of national patriotism or pander to the ego of a narcissist only concerned about his ever sinking ratings?

A few of your Republican colleagues are pushing back against Trump:

· “Congress has granted the executive branch certain spending authorities. I strongly object to any president acting outside of those explicit authorities to spend money that Congress has not appropriated for specific initiatives,” said Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR).

· Rep. Tom Reed (R-NY) said, “We recognize the president has the authority to declare a national emergency but believe this sets a bad precedent and lets Congress off the hook from doing its job. We encourage the president to use other means to move around unused money to build off of the down payment on border security Congress is delivering with this funding bill.”

· Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn), lambasted Trump’s emergency declaration as “unnecessary, unwise and inconsistent with the U.S. Constitution.”

· Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) said, “It doesn’t matter who the President is or what party they belong to: I strongly believe in the separation of powers and curbing the kind of executive overreach that Congress has allowed to fester for the better part of the last century, including during the Obama Administration.”

When the time for a public vote comes, will you have the courage to vote against Trump and his blatant power grab? Will you have the courage to protect the constitution and vote against this egotist in the Oval Office? Principled voters are watching in anticipation of 2020. It cannot come soon enough.
