The 21 Series: Voters Oppose Another Shutdown, Emergency Declaration
(2/0/1/2019 emailed 21 Republican Senators up for re-election in 2020)
The POLITICO/Morning Consult poll, conducted Jan. 25–27, after Trump announced an end to the shutdown found:
· 72% supported the agreement to reopen the government, 15% opposed it.
· 58 % oppose another shutdown; 31% support shutting the government down again to force Congress to appropriate money for the wall.
· If the government does shut down again, 54% would blame Trump and congressional Republicans, 33% would blame Democrats in Congress.
· 53% say Trump shouldn’t shut down the government or declare a “national emergency” l — far greater than the 9% who would support another shutdown or 24% who want Trump to declare a “national emergency.”
· Fewer than 4 in 10 voters say the U.S. faces a “crisis” of illegal immigration along the border with Mexico, and another 37% say the U.S. faces a “problem” but not a “crisis.” That is virtually unchanged over the past three weeks.
· Surveys from Monmouth University show 51% and Quinnipiac University 55% oppose building a wall.
And yet Trump yesterday said, “If they don’t have a wall, I don’t even want to waste my time reading what they have.” How can you support such a man? A man who calls his Intelligence Chiefs “naïve” because they name actual security risks in the world which are contrary to Trump’s lies?
Americans are more aware than ever before that Trump is a compulsive liar, a racist, a misogynist and probable traitor. What does that make you in your blind support of him? Certainly not a senator after the 2020 election.
